Questions and answers about custom carbide parts & tools from Nadler

In our FAQ section, we briefly answer the most important questions about custom carbide parts, preforms and ready-to-use tools – from consulting and material and design options to areas of application. The aim is to give you a well-founded overview quickly and make it easier to find the right solution. If you have any further special requirements or questions, please contact us – we will support you personally and in a targeted manner.

Nadler develops and manufactures custom carbide parts, preforms (near-net-shape blanks) and completely ready-to-use tools – including all machining steps (grinding, EDM, lapping, honing) in-house.

Production is possible from a quantity of 1 – with short delivery times for individual parts.

Our carbide components and tools are used in the following industries, among others:

  • Mechanical engineering
  • Automotive
  • Food industry
  • Recycling / size reduction / shredding
  • Packaging industry
  • Medical technology
  • Plastics industry
  • Forming technology

In addition, we manufacture for application-related product and usage areas such as blanks / semi-finished tools / preforms, machining / special tools, gear cutting tools (e.g. hob blanks) and cutting and punching tools.

Even if you cannot find your application here, please talk to us – we will determine the optimal design for your task.

Nadler offers the complete process from a single source: in-house powder preparation, pressing (isostatic/axial), sinter-HIP and finishing with a modern machine park – plus advice on the optimal geometry and choice of grade.

Carbide is a sintered composite of tungsten carbide (WC) as the hard phase and a metallic binder (usually cobalt, optionally nickel). The combination of a hard carbide phase and a suitable binder content and grain size results in very high hardness and wear resistance.

Key parameters are hardness (approx. 700–2,200 HV30), toughness, compressive strength (up to ~7,000 N/mm² depending on grade), density and corrosion resistance (Ni binder if required). The optimal properties result from the binder content and grain size.

Yes. In addition to preforms, Nadler manufactures completely ready-to-use tools to drawing, including cylindrical, surface, centerless and CNC tool grinding, honing, wire and sinker EDM, lapping and polishing.

Yes. Nadler advises on the geometric design (e.g. cutting edges, radii, transitions) and on the right carbide grade for maximum tool life and process reliability.

It starts with your inquiry with a drawing (alternatively a sketch or sample) and an individual consultation on material, geometry, tolerances and, if applicable, joining technology. You then receive a quotation with an estimated date for completion and delivery.

This is followed by production from a single source:

powder preparation → compaction → green machining → sintering → finishing → quality control → shipping
.

Yes. A typical shrinkage of approx. 25 % occurs during sintering; Nadler factors this shrinkage into the design in the green phase.

Through outgoing goods inspection, measuring machine testing and laboratory values after sintering; sinter-HIP ensures a homogeneous, pore-free microstructure and reproducible properties.

When high wear or abrasive media (e.g. blasting or grinding processes), highly stressed cutting edges or media contact in valve or pump technology are involved – here, carbide enables significantly longer tool life and increases availability and process reliability.

Multiple increases in tool life, less downtime and higher plant availability thanks to wear-resistant carbide tools and components matched to your application.

Send a drawing → short coordination meeting → start of production.
This is how you quickly receive an individual quotation.

We always strive for the shortest possible delivery times.
The specific date is given after reviewing the drawing and coordination.
